MVHI Awarded Boyle Fund Grant for Canaan Youth Program

MVHI recently received a grant award from the Boyle Community Pediatrics Fund of the Vermont Community Foundation to support the Indian River Youth 2 Youth after-school program. Indian River Youth 2 Youth serves students in the 5th to 8th grades at the Indian River School in Canaan, N.H.

Indian River Y2Y Showcase

On June 13, 2011, Indian River Youth 2 Youth wrapped up another year of after-school programming with a celebration and showcase of the year’s activities that included our participants’ family members. Over 40 people filled the high school cafeteria to share snacks, pizzas, and yummy desserts. The showcase included skits, a slideshow, and descriptions of many of the year’s highlights.

The Upper Valley Healthy Community Project Assessment

A year-long community health needs assessment project recently completed by MVHI shows that on most indicators of population health, the Upper Valley compares favorably with New Hampshire and the nation; however, significant disparities in access to health care, health risk factors, and health outcomes exist within the region.

Dartmouth, MVHI Develop Immunization Game

Last summer, Dartmouth’s Mary Flanagan, the Sherman Fairchild Distinguished Professor in Digital Humanities, began collaborating with MVHI on “POX: Save the People,” a game that helps players better understand how vaccines protect the population from the spread of infectious disease.
